- Potions: Severus was extremely adept in the art of potion-making and was the Potions Master at Hogwarts for fifteen years.
- Defence Against the Dark Arts: Though Severus had a zest for dark magic, he possessed outstanding knowledge and abilities in Defence Against the Dark Arts.
- Transfiguration: Severus was highly accomplished with transfiguration, particularly in the branches of Conjuration and Vanishment.
- Charms: Snape was skilled in charm-work. Snape was capable of producing a non-corporeal Patronus, which is a highly impressive magical achievement given the difficulty of casting the charm.
- Flying: Severus was a very capable flyer on a broomstick.
- Duelling: Snape was an accomplished duellist.
- Dark Arts: Severus had a passion for the Dark Arts from a young age. He was especially talented and knowledgeable in curses.
- Occlumency and Legilimency: Severus was incredibly skilled at concealing his thoughts and feelings from external penetration. He was also a master at reading others' minds.
- Magical Mastery: From a young age, Severus was a gifted wizard. He had a deep knowledge of the wizarding world. He developed a seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of magic.
- Spell Creation: Snape was very inventive with new spells. Some of the spells he created were Sectumsempra, Langlock, Muffliato, Levicorpus, and Liberacorpus.
- Wandless and Nonverbal Magic: Snape was proficient in casting nonverbal magic and wandless magic.
- Healing Magic: Snape was very skilled with healing magic. He knowledge in healing was such that Dumbledore said that Snape was more experienced in healing from Dark magic that Poppy Pomfrey.
- Intellectually Gifted: Snape was naturally intelligent.
- Alchemy: Snape had considerable skill in Alchemy.
- Apparition: Snape was able to Apparate at will.
