Dobby was about three and a half feet tall. He had large, tennis ball-like, green eyes, a pencil-like nose, and long, bat-like, pointed ears. He had brown skin. He wore a pillowcase.

- Apparition: As a house-elf, Dobby was able to Apparate, even inside place that normally forbade Apparition, such as Hogwarts and Malfoy Manor.
- Levitation: Dobby had the ability to levitate objects.
- Magical Tampering: Dobby had a talent for magically tampering with objects.
- Magical Blast: By clicking his fingers, Dobby could release powerful blasts of magic at others.
- Disarming: Dobby had the ability to disarm witches and wizards of their wands with a snap of his fingers.
