Barnaby Abernathy Lee is a wizard who began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1984 and was sorted into Slytherin.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Barnaby was born to parents who were both Death Eaters that served Lord Voldemort. He was raised in a highly toxic and abusive environment. His father would scold him for showing any emotion. His father was often cruel and unloving towards him, and even made degrading insults about needing to buy Barnaby brains for his birthday. Barnaby was a very sensitive boy. When he was helping his father exterminate Pixies he began to cry, and his father yelled at him for being weak. Strength was a trait drilled into Barnaby by his father, which became very important to him as he grew older. Barnaby's first time performing magic was when he summoned a jar of biscuits from a high shelf. He shared them with the squirrels in his neighborhood. He was worried that his parents wouldn't be impressed by his ability if they found out because it wasn't very powerful or violent. He never told them and forgot about this incident himself until he was eating Ginger Newts in the Courtyard at Hogwarts.
Barnaby was often looked after by his paternal grandmother, who was just as abusive as his parents. She lived in London. When he stayed with her, the only toys he had to play with were dark artifacts. Barnaby developed a strong bond with his uncle, Cecil Lee, who didn't share his parents' pure-blood supremacist views, being particularly fascinated by his uncle's pet Fire Dwelling Salamander Vulcan. As a child, he played a game with Cecil that his uncle called "Werewolf Tag" and owned a book which detailed all the rules of the game. After Voldemort's demise on 31 October 1981, his parents were captured and sent to Azkaban. Barnaby's childhood was quite lonely as he rarely had the opportunity to play outside. Other than his uncle Cecil, Barnaby's family has never approved of his interest in magical creatures.
Hogwarts Years (1984-1991)[]
Year One[]
Barnaby initially felt unsure about his place in Slytherin, later claiming that he didn't feel at home in the house for a long time. He was one of Merula Snyde's former cronies. But later, he became one of the Main Character's friends. Barnaby was in the same Potions class as the Main Character.
Year Three[]
Barnaby took Care of Magical Creatures as an elective as Magizoology was one of his biggest passions. He also took Divination and Muggle Studies.
Barnaby joined Merula and Ismelda Murk in Potions Class with the Main Character and Rowan Khanna. He threatened to remove every bone from the Main Character's body if they get too close to Merula. After Merula left, the Main Character spoke with Barnaby and made him take note of Merula's manipulation of him, asking him why he was friends with her. Barnaby was shaken up, but left.
Later on, Tulip Karasu came up with the idea of including Barnaby in their plan. Tulip told the Main Character that Barnaby was the strongest guy in their year, and knew Merula better than anyone. They decided to persuade him to join their team, and the Main Character found him in the Great Hall.
Following a duel which Barnaby hoped would prove they were tough enough, they went to the Three Broomsticks Inn where the Main Character managed to make Barnaby open up. He eventually agreed with their plan, fed up of Merula bossing him around every day. During the conversation, Barnaby remarked that Slytherins had "interesting" childhoods and predicted Harry Potter would be sorted into Slytherin.
With their friendship solidified, Barnaby joined Tulip, the Main Character, and the others to break into the Restricted Section of the Library. Once they managed to sneak inside, the group was confronted by Merula and Ismelda. Barnaby volunteered to duel them, allowing the rest of the group to proceed into the Cursed Vault.
Year Four[]
In Care of Magical Creatures, Barnaby, Charlie Weasley, and the Main Character studied Fire Crabs, Bowtruckles, Nifflers, and other magical animals.
Year Five[]
Barnaby met up with Charlie, Liz Tuttle, Rowan, and the Main Character at the start of term feast. They discussed how they spent their summer holidays. Their discussion was broken up by Professor Minerva McGonagall calling for attention. She announced that Professor Albus Dumbledore was away on business and introduces Patricia Rakepick as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor.
Year Six[]
Barnaby became a founding member of the Circle of Khanna, a group devoted to avenging Rowan and locating the final Cursed Vault. Barnaby stood guard while the Main Character and Ben Copper searched for the final Cursed Vault.

Beyond Hogwarts[]
Soon after graduating from Hogwarts, Barnaby is employed by the British Ministry of Magic as a Houndmaster for the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, taking care of the Pest Division's pack of albino bloodhounds. He also begins attending the Toothill Duelling Club, a place where powerful duellists, even world champions, come to duel with each other, to further develop his dueling talents. He lives with his grandmother.
Physical Appearance[]
Barnaby had spiky dark brown hair and bright green eyes. He was quite burly and tall, reaching the same height as Bill Weasley, and wore three silver rings on his right hand, and a silver bracelet on his left. Ismelda described him as having sparkling eyes and chiseled cheekbones. Barnaby generally wore his school uniform in a disheveled and relaxed style.
Personality[]
Barnaby wasn't the brightest student, nor particularly cunning. However, he did possess the Slytherin trait of ambition, in his case the ambition to become stronger. He was not particularly brave or strong-willed in his early Hogwarts years, as he was often easily manipulated and pushed around by Merula and Ismelda. He also suffered from Coulrophobia, the mortal and irrational fear of clowns. His uncle, Cecil Lee, proudly told the Main Character that Barnaby was the smartest person in the Lee family by a wide margin. Barnaby was quite self conscious. He usually showed his excellent knowledge of Magizoology. It was a surprise to many that Barnaby passed all his O.W.L.s. Barnaby was also known for his appetite. Pitts described him as having an appetite "like a Mountain troll" and the Kitchens needed to increase their sandwich production because of him. When Xenophilius Lovegood offered Barnaby a cash reward, he immediately wanted to buy twelve treacle tarts.
Despite his seeming cowardice, Barnaby was surprisingly adventurous, curious, and daring, as he often participated in forbidden and dangerous missions with the Main Character and their friends, showing the Slytherin traits of determination and fraternity. Contrary to the usual members of the house however, Barnaby was very openhearted and compassionate. Barnaby possessed a less than an exceptional academic mind, but he still excelled in his Care of Magical Creatures class. He readily relied on his brute physical strength. He could be impulsive, bullheaded, and self-sacrificing. This was seen when he prevented Rowan Khanna, bewitched by 'R,' from cursing the Main Character, saving them from harm.
Abilities and Skills[]
- Charms: Barnaby was considered by many to be the strongest duelist in his year, meaning he would have been exceptionally skilled in charm-work. He had some mastery over some duelling spells. He could also produce a non-corporeal Patronus. He cast his charms with brute force. Barnaby earned an O.W.L. in Charms and continued the subject at N.E.W.T.-level.
- Duelling: Barnaby noted to be the strongest duelist in his year by many of his peers. He had an impressive talent for martial magic, also known as combative magic. After graduating, Barnaby was able to attend the Toothill Duelling Club, which only accepts the best duellists.
- Magizoology: Barnaby was highly knowledgeable about various magical creatures. Barnaby ardently studied this subject while at Hogwarts. Barnaby earned an O.W.L. in Care of Magical Creatures and continued the subject at N.E.W.T.-level.
- Flying: Barnaby was a talented and accomplished broomstick flyer. He successfully flew to the Forbidden Forest, a notoriously difficult place to fly, in his fourth year without being noticed by any Hogwarts staff member.
- Defence Against the Dark Arts: Barnaby earned an O.W.L. in Defense Against the Dark Arts and continued the subject at N.E.W.T.-level.
- Divination: Barnaby was naturally gifted with the Inner Eye, meaning he was skilled in the field of Divination, although he said it gave him a headache. Barnaby earned an O.W.L. in Divination and continued the subject at N.E.W.T.-level.
- Transfiguration: Although he struggled at first with this branch of magic, Barnaby earned an O.W.L. in Transfiguration and continued the subject at N.E.W.T.-level.
- Potions: Barnaby earned an O.W.L. in Potions and continued the subject at N.E.W.T.-level.
- Herbology: Barnaby earned an O.W.L. in Herbology and continued the subject at N.E.W.T.-level.
- History of Magic: Barnaby earned an O.W.L. in History of Magic and continued the subject at N.E.W.T.-level.
- Astronomy: Barnaby earned an O.W.L. in Astronomy and continued the subject at N.E.W.T.-level.
- Muggle Studies: Barnaby earned an O.W.L. in Muggle Studies and continued the subject at N.E.W.T.-level.
- Apparition: Barnaby was able to Apparate at will.
- Dark Arts: Barnaby possessed a degree of skill in the Dark Arts, capable of casting dark charms, hexes, and curses.
